January 2014 Calendar

The new year has arrived, bringing with it a promise of rebirth and hope. Your desktop calendar is a picture from Valley Forge National Historic Park that I took last January. I flipped the picture horizontally so that the calendar would be clearer and not run into the big tree. I’m still working of mt 2013 recap, hopefully tomorrow. Best wishes for your best year yet!

Sports Illustrated

On Christmas Eve I received an email from my editor informing me that Sports Illustrated was using one of my images in an upcoming article. It is running in the current (Dec 30th 2013) edition of the magazine (also in the online version) under the heading “Seasons Beatings” in the Leading Off section. It’s a boxing picture I snapped at the XFE Bobby “The Celtic Warrior” Gunn vs Glen “The Road Warrior” Johnson fights at the Sands Casino in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. In the picture Eric Newell is taking a punch on the side of his face and his sweat is spraying upwards.
I was obviously elated to have achieved this milestone in my photography career, with hopefully more wonderful news in the new year.

Swans in a Fountain

I don’t usually post on a weekend, but I saw this scene earlier this morning and couldn’t resist a picture. I’m working on an end of the year reflection and of course the next desktop calendar. So here’s a bit of eye candy until next week.

Christmas Time

So Wednesday is the big day! I hope you’re ready. I’m almost, but I always have that nagging feeling like I’ve forgotten something, or someone. I’ve found that one of the nice things about Christmas being over is that it’s still Christmas time in most places. Local places have festive events that sometimes run well into January, and often they are less crowded after the big day. This picture was taken at Longwood Gardens last year and their fountain show occurs multiple times nightly through January 12th 2014. So get out there and soak up the holiday spirit even after the presents have been opened and Santa is back home warming his toes by the fire. Merry Christmas.
