The Walk Off!

April 30, 2016

What a feeling! First your adrenaline surges, then your heart rate quickens. Armed with the knowledge of the batting average and RBI's of the man at the plate, you know this stare down between batter and pitcher could end in glorious victory. You hear the crack of the bat. Your eyes jump to follow the baseball as it soars into the sky. You push it with your thoughts, out of the infield and past the warning track, and it's GONE! A home run is a fabulous thing to behold when it's your hero, or when your home team nails one out of the park, but when its tied, in the bottom of the final inning, and your slugger steps up to the plate, the air grows thick with expectation and hope.

Last night during the Phillies and the Indians MLB game Ryan Howard delivered in the bottom of the 11th inning with a killer shot over the Right Field wall, ending the game. The best part for me was seeing the faces of his teammates as he neared home plate. The smiles and elation that lit up their faces beamed pride and sportsmanship. Not contracts, endorsements, or salaries, just the spectacular emotions of victory.
