Cheyney vs. Shippensburg

Last Saturday afternoon I was granted the privilege of photographing the Wolves taking on the Red Raiders at Shippensburg. The home team displayed the skill of their undefeated record and kept the Wolves at bay, winning by a strong 61-9. Cheyney fought with heart through the battle and never gave up the fight, but the Shippensburg offence was too nimble with their lightning fast preparations between downs. It was a cold day for the fans reminding everyone that November is here and hot blooded football fans still attend the games.

The Peace of Sunrise

One of the best things about waking up before the masses is the solitude. The atmosphere takes on new fragrances of freshness and moisture. Sounds from the environment peak interest. Flashes of movement spark excitement. Quietness can become deafening over time. It’s a great time to reflect on our world and just how beautiful and fragile it is. A few clouds in the wrong place can drastically change a landscape. Each day is new and different. Everyone needs a little wonder in their day, sometimes it comes first thing in the morning as the sun bends it light around the Earth. Enjoy the weekend.

Welcome to November

Time surely has flown by this year and with Hurricane Sandy just passed I think it’s good we enter the time for giving thanks. With most of the leaves stripped from the trees, the colors of Autumn are quickly disappearing. For me the time change approaching this weekend means more chances for sunrise pictures, but less chances for sunsets.
Updates: My sports photography keeps increasing and I have to say, it’s quite exciting. I love being right there in the heart of the action. This is an area of my photography that I will keep trying to improve, and be more prolific.

Landscape photography is a passion of mine. When the timing, the preparation, the planning all come together into an image of wonder, it is a great feeling.

Travel photography also brings me joy. I love to get out and see the world. Later this month my wife and I will be visiting Sedona AZ (we took our first trip ever together there) and I’m already searching for exotic places to explore next year.

Happy Halloween

“Trick or Treat!” It’s been around all my life. I remember shouting it in elementary school during the parade and I remember hearing it over and over upon answering the door Halloween night, but this tradition isn’t that old. In America the practice of youths jaunting from door to door to collect goodies began sometime in the 50’s. In Ireland and Great Britain the tradition of souling has been around since the late 1800’s. Children would go door to door and offer songs or prayers for the dead and in return they were granted small cakes made for All Saints Day. Good luck to all the children tonight, I hope you get enough candy to last until the Easter Bunny arrives.

Halloween Memories

Anyone who knows me realizes that my memory works like a sieve. Unfortunately it’s a sieve with a broken screen that has holes big enough for grapefruits to pass through. One of my first Halloween memories was getting to dress up like my favorite super hero, who at that time was the incorruptible Mighty Mouse. Don’t laugh; he had a career of 80 films. Usually my brother and I had the store bought Halloween costumes, the ones that impaired vision and limited breathing, so running from house to house to amass great quantities of candy was almost impossible. The best thing I learned at this time was that those hollowed out plastic pumpkin containers are horrible for collecting treats. Kids, the way to go is with a pillow case - a big and strong one.
I remember taking the tuba out one year with a few friends and we made the rounds as a Dixieland band, playing “I wish I was in Dixie” and “Roll out the Barrel” long into the night. One of my most memorable costumes was when I dressed as a young mom who was just along with her kids trick or treating. I followed a bunch of children into my girlfriend’s parents’ house and scared the daylights out of my girlfriend. Ah the good old days.
