NASCAR at Michigan International Speedway

Thi was my first time visiting Michigan International Speedway so I didn't know what to expect. I find some of the big NASCAR tracks a little intimidating because of the scale of covering an event. A two mile racetrack can take a long time to walk around. The weather played a huge factor in the main event on Sunday bringing the Quicken Loans 400 to an end prematurely. Kurt Busch (driver of the #41 Haas Automation Chevrolet) was the beneficiary of the early conclusion and this marked his second win of the season. His brother Kyle Busch (driver of the #54 Monster Energy Toyota) won the Xfinity series race, the Great Clips 250, on Saturday. This was his first race in the Xfinity series since his crash back in February at Daytona International Speedway .

Heidi and I were driving to Cork to see the Waterford museum and factory and we came across some beautiful vistas so taking some pictures became mandatory. Feels like forever since I've written, and I'm sorry about that. I'll try to stay more current in the upcoming months. Your May calendar photo is from trip my wife and I took to Sedona AZ last year. It seems there are beautiful vistas everywhere in Sedona, so capturing a wonder like this isn't to hard. We were right off the road obviously.

This month's desktop calendar picture is from a trip my wife and I took late last year to Sedona AZ. We had enough time during one of our days there to visit the Grand Canyon. If you've never been, I can't describe what an amazing place it is. One tiny world of advice about visiting the Grand Canyon as a photographer. You need some weather for the best pictures. If there's no clouds in the sky, or fog in the canyon, it just looks like a big ugly hole. Weather, even a tiny bit, makes it miraculous. From the Outside Looking in:

Covering NASCAR events allows me unique views of the action at the track. Being on the outside during the Phoenix weekend allowed me to capture a few things I don't often get to photograph. My favorite was this picture of Joey Logano after he won the Xfinity race on Saturday. He turned his car around after crossing the finish line and erupted his racecar in a rolling burnout that extended along the front stretch. The checkered flag was tossed to him on the way by. The good part for me about being on the outside of the racetrack is that from the inside much of this scene is obscured by the cement retaining wall (the wall that has the Camping World sign on it). Plus it looks pretty cool with the Phoenix International Raceway sign and the mountains in the background.
